Structure


Latvian Food Centre

is a national administrative institution supervised by the Ministry of Health, founded on 7 November, 1995. The main operational tasks of Latvian Food Centre are set out in the Article 20, Law on Supervision of Food Circulation, and its’ activities are governed by the Cabinet Regulation No. 291 of 2 July 2002 ″BYLAWS of the Latvian Food Centre″.

The structure of the Latvian Food Centre is the following:

Department for Developing the Draft Legal Provisions (phone: + 371 7021729)
prepares draft plans for implementation of the EU legislation, organises and carries out developing of draft legal provisions on food safety within the scope of the Latvian Food Centre competence, ensures collaboration with the international organisations on solving the food circulation related issues.

Nutrition Policy Department (phone: + 371 7021780)
prepares proposals for optimizing the nutrition policy, as well as organises and co-ordinates implementation of it, develops the relevant concepts and draft action plans, including the required draft legal provisions and healthy nutrition recommendations.

Department for Analysis and Development (phone: + 371 7021756)
organises and co-ordinates collaboration among research institutions for scientific evaluation of food related issues in accordance with the EU legislation and programmes covering issues on nutrition and safe food, carries out the analysis of factors causing food-borne diseases, analyses the current year results of food supervision and control.
